Sit at the machine and grasp the handles, inhale and raise the handles to the horizontal position. Exhale at the end of the movement.
This exercises uses the deltoid focusing most of the effort on the middle deltoid. It also uses the supraspinatus located below the deltoids and, if you raise your arms above the horizontal, the upper portion of the trapezius also becomes involved.
This is an excellent beginning exercise because you do not have to worry about how you position yourself and it allows long sets of repetitions.
